Vuze won't run after Yosemite instal (OSX)
#1
I just updated my OSX to Yosemite and now I am unable to run Vuze. I get an error message telling me to instal Java 6 (legacy) but I am reluctant to downgrade my Java from 8 to 6. Is this the end of the road?

No, grab the Java 1.7 installer from

http://sourceforge.net/projects/azureus/...g/download

Vuze will run with 1.8 (and 1.9...) but we don't have a prebuilt installer yet for those versions.

Wonderful! That worked, thanks.
It wasn't obvious that an alternative installer existed, and I did check to see if there was an update available.
I hope this will help others.

Hi Parg,

I have the same problem, unable to run the latest of Vuze for Mac (5.4.0.0)

I am using OS X 10.10 with the latest updates and most important Java 7 update 71 installed on my Mac. And Vuze wants me to download the older version of of Java 6 from the Apple website.

Please advise if I am doing something wrong.

thanks,
Amit

For Java 7 and above Vuze doesn't use the system installed version (if it exists), it always installs its own local version which is why you need to run the installer linked above.

This might change in the future.

Please note that none of the security issues with Java that have been in the news (relatively) recently have been relevant to Vuze as they have mainly been browser based exploits. So we believe that using a local install is a good way to manage things. Of course we will update the local version should this be required.

Hi Parg,

I tried to download and install the installer you mention above but when I click on the link it automatically donloads the Vuze installer, which I run and install. After instaliation i get the same error "To open “Vuze” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime. Click “More Info…” to visit the legacy Java SE 6 download website."

Is there a step by step guide I can use to install this to understad what I'm doing wrong?

It should be straight forward and as you have done. Is there any chance that you are installing the new version of Vuze in a different location to your existing version and accidentally running the old one?

I had the same problem and downloaded this. I installed the provided file and then I got a notification popup from an app called PremierOpinion. I did some research and now I'm scared. Seems this may be a variant of the OpinionSpy spyware/malware(?) from about 5 years ago. Am I screwed, or is this something legit that you're aware of as being distributed with the Vuze app?

Of course finding PremierOpinion in your applications folder and on your top menu bar is an unpleasant surprise but let's get back to the central issue - it has been since October of 2014 about 8 months since this problem was identified in this form. Is there an update on the status? I followed the instructions to install the package "http://sourceforge.net/projects/azureus/files/vuze/Vuze_5400/Vuze_5400_Installer_Java7.dmg/download" and this didn't help me. It seems that it's been long enough to come up with a better solution for OSX 10.10 as it's certainly been around longer than that. I hate looking at other applications like Utorrent, etc. I'm not very technical and I'm not going to do all the stuff recommended for replacing my Java from downloads off the Oracle website - just too many things I don't understand in that explanation although it is very well done. How about a solution for a simple man who would like to stay with Vuze and keep things simple?

I'm getting the following error message when I attempt to install on OSX Yosemite.

 /Applications/Vuse.app/Contents/Resources/app/.install4j/Messages.bundle/Contents/Resources/de.lproj/Localizable.strings

Could not create this file.  Shall I try again?
