Hello. I hope someone can help. I have used Vuze forever with no problems whatsoever. Until today. Suddenly, it didn't do what it usually does and it.......... just wouldn't open. I have now spent hours uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Java. Before that, I did a system restore to a couple of days ago (everything else has been working fine and I have made NO changes to my pc recently, but thought I'd try a restore anyway). The upshot is... Vuze simply will not open. I get the spnning circle for a second or two, and then...... nothing. I can't think of anything else to try. I love my Vuze! If anyone could help me to get it working again, I'd be a very happy bunny! I am using Windows 7.
Thanks so much for your reply. I have tried what you suggested (CMD is a bit scary to me!!) and I get this message when I type in what you suggest:
"program is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file". Geek to me!
I have also had a very helpful reply from another Vuze bod with excellent and detailed advice as to uninstalling and reinstalling Vuze and Java. I have followed their advice to the letter but still Vuze will not open!
I have not made any recent changes to my computer (Windows 7)... apart from.... the usual Windows Updates and Java... I am suspecting that Java is the culprit here, but having uninstalled and reinstalled (definitely the correct version for 32 bit) I am ........... stumped. And nearly crying with frustration!
Anyway... thanks for your advice thus far.... if you have anything else up your sleeve to suggest, I would be grateful to read you!
Mmmm... Have followed your wiki.vuze.com link (thank you once again!) and.. I think I might be a bit "thick" regarding the cmd command... could I just clarify that you want me to type in exactly what I see... spaces and all? I have copied and pasted all (separately), to test, the instructions in your link but still get the same "program is not recognised" message.

Second, open up Windows Explorer and look at your C:\ folder - navigate into
Program Files (x86)
and look for a "java" folder, then if it exists look in there and see what is listed.
Likewise navigate into
Program Files
and do the same
This will tell you what versions of Java you have installed
~~Hi again parg Thanks for the clear instructions for the unitiated (me!). So. Regarding the CMD prompt I have attached a "snip" of what appears..... I would just clarify that even though it says "Vista" I AM using Windows 7... I upgraded to 7 some years ago but just called the computer "Vista"! Secondly, when I navigated to program files, Java, it says "jre1.8.0_51".
So... did as you suggested. Have attached another snip... you will see I had to do the second instruction twice (I saw sense and copied and pasted your instruction instead of mis-typing like I did the first time.....!). So.... happy reading!
I know nothing, but it seems to me that Vuze is running.... somewhere? Away from me?! I did notice earlier when I re-tried uninstalling Vuze for a second or third time that when it was uninstalling it showed the message "shutting down actively running Vuze instance" which again suggests that it is running........ invisibly?!?!
I am sure the computer name is not a problem... it has been that for quite some time of happy Vuze-usage!
I'm also having this issue of vuze no longer starting up. It's only occured since Windows updated yesterday. Unfortunately because the update was a critical update I cant even restore it to an earlier version.
I've been following your suggestions with no luck either. I've installed both the 32 and 64 bit versions, updated Java, tried to run it through DOS etc. nothing has worked
I look forward to seeing whats actually happened here, thanks for all the help.
Not intending to hijack this thread but I also have an issue with my Vuze suddenly not starting after after many years of use. I have followed through the pointers in this forum and attached my result, which says StartServer ERROR.
So it looks as if something on your system is already listening on the port that Vuze uses to communicate with other instances of itself - are you sure there isn't a Vuze already running?
If you are sure that there isn't then please try starting Vuze in the same way but add the following BEFORE the org.gudy.azureus2.ui.swt.Main
-Dazureus.instance.port=<random number between 1025 and 65535>
