Vuze Launcher Has Stopped Working [Resolved}
#1
[RESOLVED - WORKAROUND]
The issue started on my Windows 10 machine about 3 days ago. Untl then it worked without an issues. With some trial and error, it was clear that the message "Vuze lancher has stopped working" a few seconds after startup would appear and close the application. This shut down was in direct co-relation to the loading of the advetisement on the bottom left of the free version 5.7.0.0 of vuze.

SOLUTION: Although I don't know the reason, perhaps due to changes in the Windows 10 security protocol or something related to it, the issue is with the advertisement plugin that loads on startup. Please go to C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\Azureus\plugins
and delete the folder azpromo

Vuze should work properly for that instance but Azereus will download this plugin again and the problem will return. This is a temporary work around until Vuze releases a patch.

Thanks - I've released a patch to hopefully work around this - unfortunately Vuze will crash once more after applying the patch but should then continue.

If you are quick enough to disable the ad panel (hit the 'x' top right of the ad) before the crash you can avoid this too.

How do I get the patch?

Thanks

It is automatically applied (hopefully!)

Automatically applied?  Where? When?

Is there a way to manually apply this patch, because I don't see where anything was automatically applied. No matter how many times I delete the azpromo folder, it still comes back and Vuze crashes. I'm using Windows 10. I like Vuze better than the alternative bit torrent downloaders, and prefer to keep it. Is there another fix in the mill?

This is what I did and seems to work.  I did not delete the azpromo folder instead I went to properties and changed security permissions so system or user account can not have acess to the folder.  This prevents vuze from downloading the folder but vuze asks to restart often.  Just ignore restart and vuze works fine.

 C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\Azureus\plugins
Go to azpromo directory and change permissions so there is no access allowed.  That will prevent ad from loading or downloading again.  Vuze will not crash and you don't get ads anymore.

I was able to make stop the crashing from opening the properties file with Noetpad+++ and adding some giberish (***) to the file and save it.

Crashes have not come back. Look in red below.

plugin.class=com.vuze.azureus.plugin.azpromo.***PromoPlugin
plugin.langfile=com.vuze.azureus.plugin.azpromo.internat.Messages
plugin.name=Promo View
plugin.id=azpromo
plugin.version=1.1.6

Thanks so much for this, only been a few minutes but this seems to work. Was trying the delete azpromo work around but the folder would keep showing up shortly after opening Vuze. I like Vuze but that was pretty annoying...
