I just re-installed 5.7.0 and that works fine. I was having exactly the same issues with 5.7.1. I'm not going to update until a newer version is available.

Please go to Tools->Options->Transfer and see if 'max connections per torrent' is set to be 0 (unlimited). If so then change it to something large (e.g. 100000) as there is a bug in 5710 that is treating 0 as 0...
