Tabs are gone !??

I upgraded from 4.9 to 5.3 and there are no tabs !  I do like the increased speed of 5.3 over
4.9.  Thanks for doing that.  That's why I don't want to go back to 4.9.

I've spent probably hours trying to find any secret setting to turn them on but
it's not there.  It looks like the programers substituted that side bar for tabs.  A side bar doesn't do it
for me.  It takes up too much horizontal real estate, plus you can't see enough of the torrent name,
etc.,etc.  I want the window narrow enough to
hold only the columns I want in the detailed view (advanced mode).  Tabs take up MUCH less real
estate than that side bar.  Couldn't you have given us an option to have them ?
I empathize with the "For Pete's sake" thread guy (but wish he had said it more nicely).  The
response to his post by "ekstasee" doesn't make any sense - there is no "classic interface" option
that I can see.
Please tell me there is a way to get them so I don't have to go back to the slower 4.9.

There is the 'classic interface' - Tools->Options->Interface->Start  - hit the 'UI Chooser' button, select 'classic UI' and restart.
