Slow Download Speeds ???

Just wondering what is a good or normal download speed for everyone ??? I might see over 100 mps once or twice during a download BUT I'm thinking I adverage around 40-50 mps. :( It's taking me close to 4 hours to download 1 Gig of info !! How about you ??? Any tips to increse download speed if I'm out of the new normal ?? Thanks
