Set Download Location to smb:// ...?
#1
Is it possible to set the Download Location to a NAS drive, i.e. smb://server/drive/folder/filename.ext, on my LAN?

When picking a directory, other Android apps, e.g. ES File Explorer, LocalCast, offer navigation beyond just the local storage and microsd card. Other apps, e.g. Locus Map, allow the user to select a storage location using the "ES Save To" dialog through the Share interface.

Either way the result is the same - the user can select any storage location he/she has permission to use., including smb:// drives. Granted, this capability was severely restricted in KitKat 4.4.2, but it was restored in 5.0 and beyond.

Torrent clients work best when every torrent leached remains available in seeding mode until a reasonable ratio is reached. Restricting Vuze/Android to the available local storage makes it impossible to be a good torrent netizen!

Am I missing something? Is this a capability of Vuze/Android that I haven't yet found?

Stan

Running Vuze/Android 2.1 and Android 4.1.2 on SGS2.

OK, 64 views and NO replies. I'll take that as a "No"!

So, if this feature does not exist, is there a prefered forum or other means of communication with the development team where I could suggest this as a needed feature?

Thanks for viewing,

I see you've created an entry on vote.vuze.com for this - thanks! Isn't there any way you can mount an smb:// on Android as a file system? Internally Vuze uses the file system interfaces to read/write files, if this had to be switched to use something like jCIFS explicitly then that would be a significant change

Thanks for taking an interest in this problem.

There are ways to mount an smb server as a local drive, but they all start with rooting your Android device. Rooting carries risks and is easier and safer on some devices than others. My old SGS2 is long since off of warranty and off of the update cycle, but it has the reputation of being one of the hardest devices to root.

I'd like to post a link here to my vote.vuze.com entry, but I can't find it! Are you the moderator and are you holding it in review?
