Safety Question [Vuze Search]
#1
I'll preface this by saying I have a VPN and have setup Vuze to work via a SOCKS (v 5) Proxy...

I have a question regarding Vuze Search, templates, and using the systems default external browser (Options > Interface > Display > External Browser). Simply, how safe is it?

To break this down a little bit further, I have templates setup for KAT (now gone :( ) The Pirate Bay, Extratorrent, etc., etc., etc. The way I typically use these features together is to search for a show/movie/program within the Vuze search bar. The results are listed within Vuze itself from the several different templates. There are a couple of options for downloading at this point, with the most obvious being clicking the "Download" button. This is the part that I'm questioning. How safe is it to use the Download button within Vuze while also using a SOCKS Proxy? Is the import of the torrent also done behind the Proxy?

This question came about after a discussion with my brother whom also uses Vuze. Everything between our Vuze systems are the same, however instead of using Vuze search and the download button, he searches the torrent sites and copies the URL (and/or the Hash) of the torrent and pastes them into Vuze using the Open Torrent button.

So which method is safer, or are they equally safe? My brother believes using Vuze search & the download button isn't safe as the import of the torrent isn't behind the Proxy, whereas pasting a Hash or URL into Vuze is behind the proxy.

Parg - is this something you would be able to answer, or possibly point me in a direction to find the answer myself?
