Problem with 5.7.5.0 upgrade (Windows 10)
#1
I received an on-screen update that Vuze had downloaded an 'important update' and needed to restart.  I complied and that 'important update' has rendered my Vuze installation non-functional.  When i restarted, my Norton anti-virus threw an exception on swt-gdip-win32-4716.dll under the threat WS.Reputation.1.  Vuze 'starts' but is clearly hobbled.  In the process of researching, i discovered an issue reported with this dll back in 2015 which seemed to be related to the promo screen.  I tried disabling that plugin (azpromo) via Tools->Options->Plugins and restarted, to no avail.

Of course, this may be a unnecessarily anal warning by Norton as well, but then, some advice on how to sidestep it would be helpful.  I'm running Windows 10 and Java 1.8.0_121.  I also tried to do this via the full installer, with the same result.  Below is the screen scrape of what Norton is reporting:

Filename: swt-gdip-win32-4716.dll
Threat name: WS.Reputation.1Full Path: c:\users\stuffhere\.swt\lib\win32\x86\swt-gdip-win32-4716.dll

I use Vuze x64 on windows 10 with no problem, but always down the complete installer on the site rather than using the automatic update.

Excellent advice. I do the same and keep copies of every installer file. If anything goes wrong, I re-install the previous version that worked.

Great advice, but it doesn't help me.  I've tried downloading the full installer from the website with the same result.

This is a false-positive from Norton - that DLL is simply part of the user interface library (SWT) that Vuze uses - it is extracted into that .swt\lib at runtime in order to be used. Please report this to Norton as a false positive - in the meantime you will need to tell Norton to not scan that folder (I assume you can do this, I don't use Norton)

OK, thanks for this info.  I did restore the file back, create an exception for it and Vuze now seems to run normally.  I've submitted this to Norton.  I kind of expected that this was a Norton overreaction, but thanks for confirming it.  Better safe than sorry, and they've saved my ass more than a few times.

Problem solved, thank you!
