PLEASE HELP - Placeholder files reducing my hard drive space permanantly

~~My "About Vuze" system information: Java 1.8.0_25; Oracle Corporation; SWT v4233, win32; Windows 7 v6.1, amd64; V5.4.0.0/4 az3 I opened a torrent file and unchecked most of the files included as I only want one of them. However, even though I unchecked them, Vuze still allocated the full 70Gb of hard disk space.
 So then I decided to download some of the ones I originally unchecked, however after much much searching and researching online, going to the files tab and highlighting the files that were originally unchecked,  I still can't find any information about how to then download them... So I figure maybe I'll remove the torrent and start over and this time let it download more of them. However, Vuze doesn't recognize that this is the exact same torrent file (which is understandable since I deleted it from the library), so it says I have insufficient disk space.
How do you get Vuze to clean up after itself? (remove allocated space for which there are no torrents in the library)? Or how do I do it manually?
 I checked my main SSD where I had my last Vuze install on a while back, and see that I only have 64Gb of files yet my 96Gb drive is almost full (and my backup and pagefile is not on that drive). I bet Vuze has some allocated space wasted on that drive as well... all this time... :(
Can anyone please tell me where these placeholder files are?

Aren't there any employees that check here once in a while, especially if none of the users knows the answer? I am kind of surprised that no one knows the answer to this... pretty important issue (how do we free up the disk space allocated if we decide to cancel a download)

I read most posts but I don't have time to answer them all.

You could try enabling the 'append data to files as downloaded...' option under Tools->Options->Files

It only affects newly added torrents though.

Thank you for your reply Parg. I can try that, but how do I recover the 70Gb of space that Vuze allocated that was not used?
( what file is it that Vuze uses to reserve the space?)

Parg, I just tried to resume per this http://wiki.vuze.com/w/How_do_you_resume
And it said it detected existing files and asked if I wanted to overwrite if necessary and I selected yes. But then it still said insufficient disk space :(

I believe I finally found it. I deleted a torrent folder of the same name nested inside another torrent folder of the same name. I believe I learned about the resume technique too late and created a duplicate folder when I opened another copy of the torrent (which I believed didn't happen because it said insufficient disk space). I ran a 3rd party program called TreeSizeFree and I think all is in order now. So the information I was looking for, was that the placeholder files are simply inside the save folder and you have to use the resume technique if you want to download the rest of the files in the torrent.
P.S. I believe it would be vastly better if Vuze did not reserve the entire space if we only check a single file to download in the torrent to begin with. I understand it reserving if we have checked all of the files, but not if we only want a single file.
