New torrent error : "Invalid file!"

First - the usual apologies if this has been covered and I'm just being thick.

Today I started getting an error when trying to make a new torrent. After selecting the file/folder and clicking Next, it returns Invalid file! I've been making torrents with Vuze for 3+ years, no problems, and last did it successfully on 8/18. I'm not selecting any of the check boxes (Multi-tracker, HTTP seeds, hashes for other networks) and would not normally do that.

I have tried:
- using many sorts of files (txt, rar, jpg) as well as folders containing the same sort of files from various locations on the computer
- both drag-and-drop and click through directories to find files to torrent
- changing the default directory for .torrent files
- resetting Vuze to default config & restarting
- rebooting the computer
- different trackers (don't know why that would matter but . . .)

and can't think of anything else to do. There are no problems with existing torrents.

As far as I know that is just because the location that you wizard will save the file to is invalid - make sure you have a valid writable folder and torrent file name in the save location. Then again, if you've been doing this for 3 years I'm sure you know what you're doing so my advice is probably bogus ;)

You know, it's the curse of asking the question! Soon as you ask you can figure it out.

Saving the .torrent in the default data directory works. Not the usual spot down in /AppData/Roaming/&c, not in the same folder that what I'm trying to make a .torrent for is . . . not anywhere else I tried - argh!

So yes, the answer is exactly what you said, parg, except that the other locations should be valid, and I have no idea why they are suddenly not.

lol and sorry if I sounded like an ass saying that I'd been doing it for years - but obviously I have no rep here and wanted it to be clear that I'm not always a fumbling moron. Just today.

I just had this same thing happen to me. After a minute of looking into the problem, it was caused by a duplicate torrent being made in the same directory. I had to stop a torrent being made because I forgot to add a file into it - but it generated a .torrent file and I didn't see it. When I was ready to make the new .torrent with all files I wanted - it said in red letters INVALID FILE -  because it was already there.

YES you can save the torrent into another directory - BUT first check to see if there is already a duplicate previous .torrent file in that folder
you usually save them to. Otherwise you just have redundancy and lack of understanding of the actual problem at hand.
YOU MUST DELETE THE OLD TORRENT DUPLICATE - otherwise your hash will not be the same and easy to get confused which is which.
Whoever posted the original inquiry - errors happen  - it's not to bruise your delicate ego.

Fix it by checking and corectting the directory path. You will get Invalid File error is the directoy path does not exist. This happend to me when I redid Windows and loaded my Vuze preferences from backup, but changed my user name.
