Native Kickass search template dead
#1
I have been using Vuze (Azureus) for many years and have always been able to solve problems by searching the great forums, but this problem has me stumped.  For almost a week, all of my subscriptions created with the Kickasstorrents search template INCLUDED with the Vuze installation have not worked, returning errors.   I suspect it is a Kickass problem because I have tried most everything I know to do after over 10 years of using vuze, but I am not sure.  It would seem to me that since the template is included with the installation, that it is not enough to say these templates are third party and check with the originator.  I tried changing the url to kat.cr, since they migrated, but I still get all yellow triangle warnings on ALL my Kickass subs.  Extratorrent based subs work fine.

When I do a simple search for a title, the native Kickass seach template eventually just returns a "did not work" symbol and grays itself out.  All the other native search templates work as normal.

On Kickass subs the error states: runtime error: Could not generate DH keypair. Prime size must be multiple of 64.  Can only range from 64 to 1024.

On other occasions I have received the error message (before switching from kickass.to or kickass.ph to kat.cr), that there were too many redirections, which is why I switched to kat.cr.

Can anyone help with this isuue, please?  Hard to believe that only 2 users are facing this issue.

PS Added screen shot of on of the errors

Make that 3 users.... I cannot believe there aren't 100's if not 1000's of users having the same problem!!!
I have been trying all week to find a solution to this, but to no avail.
From what I can gather, the problem is with Kickass, not Vuze.
When I try to download various torrents directly from Kickass, all I get are .img files of 917 KB that are not recognizable by and/or will not open with any software.
There seems to be hints of a problem on the Kickass Forums, but nothing close to our situation.

Thank you for taking the time to to add your experience with the same issue.  Was beginning to think I was alone on an island.  Over 30 people have already viewed it but there have been no responses of help, as you know.

Have to laugh, when I saw you signed up for the forums today.  I have never had to post anything here and, even after waiting for days, expecting SOMEONE to just notice and fix it, nothing has changed.  I registered yesterday for the first time in over 10 years of using Vuze.

Please get back to me if you find an answer.  I have been considering a fresh install, but that would destroy years of tinkering with options and, needless to say, ALL my subscriptions.  Just figure it may have been one little thing that I changed, but I do not remember any recent changes.  Oddly enough, I did a total backup of my system a week ago while I know the search templates were working properly, and I still get the same errors even after restoring to back then.  This leads me further into believing it is a Kickass problem, not Vuze.  The rpoblem is not the individual subscriptions, I think, but the fact that all of the individual subscriptions use the same Kickass search template to create the subscriptions.  If the template is no longer valid, its offspring become invalid, thus a column of yellow triangle errors.

Hope we or someone can figure it out.  I will backup my present configuration of Vuze and try a fresh install.  Will let you know the results.

Thanks again, nice to know there is another island out there :)

Try updating your Java to 1.8

Parg, thank you so much for weighing in as a staff member.  I had already updated my Java when I saw the error message, it did not help.  I have spent most of the day dealing with this issue and have solved it.  I did a BACKUP OF MY CONFIGURATION, unistalled, cleaned my registry of left over Vuze references, also deleted the leftover Vuve folder on the Programs folder (had to close Firefox because it was using the files), reinstalled and tried the template at https://sites.google.com/site/vuzetempla...s-download for kickass.to.  It worked, but I wanted my old config back, but was concerned about starting the whole mess again by restoring. Tried it anyway after backing up and, oddly enough, one of the two Kickass search templates started working, one was still reporting as non-functional.  Went into the template edit, copied the info from the working template into the nonfunctional template, and they BOTH started working.  Did a little more investigation and created a new template with the latest Kickass address and it WORKED!  I think it was a combination of a corrupted Vuze that finally gave in and the template died when KAT migrated.  Not sure, but my vuze is working perfectly!

If the Vuze site would allow me to up load the created KAT cr.vuze program I would include it, but it does not.  People may not have to go through a clean install of Vuze.  For all I know, just adding this template may solve the problem, and then get rid of the old search templates through the create custom template option under add/edit button on a search.

Here is the screen shot of the custom template:

Update:

BACKUP YOUR CONFIG BEFORE DOING ANYTHING! Also a good idea to set up automatic backup for future possible problems.  You find this under Tools>options>Backup and Restore

Based on my further experience and the further experience of several people who have followed my instructions for this problem, it IS necessary to do a clean uninstall (I used Revo Uninstaller with advanced scanning option), if you are having this problem.  There are a lot of files left behind by the normal Vuze uninstaller, Revo uses the normal Vuze uninstaller first and then scans for leftover, orphaned files, which you can mark to delete and then press the delete button right next to the select all button.  If you press finish when you see the orphaned files instead of select file and then delete, you will delete nothing leftover.  Select all files>delete right next to it>finish. (if you choose to get ahold of Revo Uninstaller).  Hmm...wonder how you could do that?

I am unsure whether or not just using the built in uninstaller in the Vuze program is enough or not, give it a try if you want.  I DO know that a thorough uninstall, cleaning of orphan files and Reg keys works.  YMMV

BACKUP YOUR CONFIG BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!

After reinstalling Vuze, restore your config file.  At least one of your KAT templates should be working (if you had multiple KAT search templates to begin with).  If still you have invalid KAT templates running in a multiple KAT template system, fix or delete those.  You can fix them by copying info from the one that runs into the invalid one.  I have 2 KAT search templates.  You may ask why?  Paranoia!  But remember, just because you might be paranoid like I am, it does not mean they are not after you LOL!

I think it's very odd that the template (original) for kickass.to works on 2 windows boxes I have but not on 2 others? It never stopped. But on my wife's new laptop Win 8.1 it has stopped and on this win 7 box it has stopped. I backed up the one that does work and then restored that backup to the non-working PC and it still doesn't work....mighty strange.
