Kickass Torrent will not work!
#1
Im very gratefull for the work that people do on this site, but am not very IT smart, when I am searching torrents, even though KAT is enabled it does not participate in the search and fades when all the other torrents have green ticks besides them. Is there something that I need to do? I need help please.

I have this issue from time to time, it's usually on KAT's side though. If their servers go down, Vuze can't search their servers and search results won't populate. If the problem continues for an extended period of time I would recommend finding a new/different KAT search template.
Hope this helps!

For the record, Vuze is not responsible for the maintenance of third-party templates. If any template to stop working, try to contact the creator of the template. As sites of nature kat, piratebay and the like are constantly attacked in court, they change address, which sometimes causes the lack of functioning, or when you change the look of the page as well.

I have been using Vuze (Azureus) for many years and have always been able to solve problems by searching the great forums, but I am having the same problem.  For almost a week, none of my subscriptions created with the Kickasstorrents search template INCLUDED with the Vuze installation.  As a previous reply said, I suspect it is a Kickass problem because I have tried most everything I know to do after over 10 years of using vuze.  It would seem to me that since the template is included with the installation, that it is not enough to say these templates are third party and check with the originator.  I tried changing the url to kat.cr, since they migrated, but I still get all yellow triangle warnings on ALL my Kickass subs.  Extratorrent based subs work fine.

On Kickass subs the error states: runtime error: Could not generate DH keypair. Prime size must be multiple of 64.  Can only range from 64 to 1024.

On other occasions I have received the error message (before switching from kickass.to or kickass.ph to kat.cr), that there were too many redirections.

Can anyone help with this isuue, please?  Hard to believe that only 2 users are facing this issue.

Try updating your Java to 1.8 if not already on it

Parg, thank you so much for weighing in as a staff member.  I had already updated my Java when I saw the error message, it did not help.  I have spent most of the day dealing with this issue and have solved it.  I did a BACKUP OF MY CONFIGURATION, unistalled, cleaned my registry of left over Vuze references, also deleted the leftover Vuve folder on the Programs folder (had to close Firefox because it was using the files), reinstalled and tried the template at https://sites.google.com/site/vuzetempla...s-download for kickass.to.  It worked, but I wanted my old config back, but was concerned about starting the whole mess again by restoring. Tried it anyway after backing up and, oddly enough, one of the two Kickass search templates started working, one was still reporting as non-functional.  Went into the template edit, copied the info from the working template into the nonfunctional template, and they BOTH started working.  Did a little more investigation and created a new template with the latest Kickass address and it WORKED!  I think it was a combination of a corrupted Vuze that finally gave in and the template died when KAT migrated.  Not sure, but my vuze is working perfectly!

If the Vuze site would allow me to up load the created KAT cr.vuze program I would include it, but it does not.  People may not have to go through a clean install of Vuze.  For all I know, just adding this template may solve the problem, and then get rid of the old search templates through the create custom template option under add/edit button on a search.

Here is the screen shot of the custom template:Attached Files Thumbnail(s)

BACKUP YOUR CONFIG BEFORE DOING ANYTHING! Also a good idea to set up automatic backup for future possible problems.  You find this under Tools>options>Backup and Restore

Based on my further experience and the further experience of several people who have followed my instructions for this problem, it IS necessary to do a clean uninstall (I used Revo Uninstaller with advanced scanning option), if you are having this problem.  There are a lot of files left behind by the normal Vuze uninstaller, Revo uses the normal Vuze uninstaller first and then scans for leftover, orphaned files, which you can mark to delete and then press the delete button right next to the select all button.  If you press finish when you see the orphaned files instead of select file and then delete, you will delete nothing leftover.  Select all files>delete right next to it>finish. (if you choose to get ahold of Revo Uninstaller).  Hmm...wonder how you could do that?

I am unsure whether or not just using the built in uninstaller in the Vuze program is enough or not, give it a try if you want.  I DO know that a thorough uninstall, cleaning of orphan files and Reg keys works.  YMMV

BACKUP YOUR CONFIG BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!

After reinstalling Vuze, restore your config file.  At least one of your KAT templates should be working (if you had multiple KAT search templates to begin with).  If still you have invalid KAT templates running in a multiple KAT template system, fix or delete those.  You can fix them by copying info from the one that runs into the invalid one.  I have 2 KAT search templates.  You may ask why?  Paranoia!  But remember, just because you might be paranoid like I am, it does not mean they are not after you LOL!

If you uninstall Vuze, do you lose all your downloads?

NO, you should be storing them in a separate folder by default, which will not be affected by your uninstalling.  I store mine on a separate external hard drive, which you can do by moving them after completion in options under FILE.  In any case: BACKUP YOUR CONFIG FILE FOR VUZE AND RESTORE.  You will lose absolutely nothing IF your CONFIG FILE IS BACKED UP AND YOU RESTORE
i must have restored my config file 50 times or more over the years, never losing a thing, as long as you backup RIGHT BEFORE you uninstall.  You will restore whatever was backed up.  If your last backup was done 3 days ago, you will lose the last 3 days of any changes in the program, including 3 days changes to subscriptions and templates, and while you will not lose what you have already downloaded, anything added during that 3 days to your library will not show.  You had better know where your files were downloaded to to be able to find them :)

I was able to uninstall and reinstall I have a Mac so I don't know if my uninstall process is different than yours.  Basically I just dragged my Vuze folder to the trash.  I restored my configuration and am still having the same problem with Kickass as before.  I also tried going on the Beta program as someone on the Vuze staff suggested in another post and that didn't work either.  I'm kind of at my wit's end.

Also, a new problem cropped up when I reinstalled.  I can now no longer play my downloads from the Library the way I used to be able to before.  Not only any prior downloads but anything new as well.  Any suggestions on how I can remedy that situation?  Thanks in advance!

I have a PC and know nothing about Macs. I apologize.

I have no idea about the new problem. I never play my downloads through Vuze. I always use VLC after opening the file from my library. The only question I can think of is are you running the beta or the latest public release? Could be an issue with the beta.

As I mentioned, I suggest a CLEAN uninstall AFTER backing up config. I am sure that, like my PC, many files are left orphaned after a normal uninstall, INCLUDING your old config.

As far as I know, the beta programs do not fix this issue. This is an external search template, which Vuze does not support. In my computer SOMETHING became corrupted and the easiest way is to do a CLEAN uninstall and reinstall. Do you know the difference between a clean uninstall and a regular uninstall?

I have run into this problem in the past.  It has had to do with Kickass needing to change their url because of government seizure of their site(s).  Refer to this blog post:  https://kat.cr/blog/post/kickasstorrents...cr-domain/  They are now at a kat.cr.  I have searched for a template reflecting this change but it does not look like one has been created yet (I usually refer to Torfeat for such templates).  Until there is I assume you will not be able to use Kickass via Vuze.

You can always use kickass by just visiting the site and getting the magnet link and or downloading the .torrent file directly from kickass.
