Is it ok to rename files within a torrent?
#1
Being a new user to vuze, I am still learning the features.  This morning I was pleasantly surprised when I hit a button by accident and suddenly my video was instantly appearing on my TV via my WD Live.  Talk about being excited!

Since most file names have tech info included on the name, I give in to my OCD after a share ratio is met by changing the file names to "Name (Year)"  I've always had the understanding that once you change a file name, you can no longer share that torrent.  Am wondering if technology has surpassed this restriction?  Would love to instantly stream my videos without having to go through the time consuming menu of the wd live.

Tips and Ideas are welcomed.

You can rename the file from within Vuze and things should work fine - go to the Files View tab for the torrent, right-click on the file and select 'rename or retarget' and type in the new name.

If you manually go to your hard drive and change things then this will break seeding as you say (as Vuze no longer knows where the file is). You can fix this situation by using the same menu above and browsing to wherever the renamed file is.

Thank you for your response.  I am not sure what the Files View tab is, but checking around I could right click on the particular torrent and it will let me choose Rename Displayed Name, but that doesn't change the name of the file.   I hate to be a bother, but can you give me a more detailed path?

edit:  scratch that last request. (tried to find the scratch through for the words above, but failed LOL)
*** Continued piddling and found the 'rename or retarget' you mentioned.  Thank you very much!!!!
