Incompatible licence issue
#1
Hi,

Refering to a previous post on your old forums: http://forum-archive.vuze.com/thread.jsp...9&tstart=0

Are you able to confirm the licence and copyright of all the source code which builds Vuze? We'd like to package the latest version in Debian, however the outstanding licence questions mean we currently won't be able to include it in the main archive.

Many thanks,

snelson

Hi,

Sorry for the ongoing delay here - we're still waiting on the guy who know's the most about this area. As soon as I have an update on this I'll post here and on the old forums.

Thanks!

Hi,

Did you manage to clarify the licence of the source files in Vuze?

Many thanks.

We have had a tidy up to remove inconsistent header files, perhaps you could re-assess the situation regarding your requirements?

The source for the latest release, 5612, is available here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/azureus/...p/download

thanks!

Off-topic: With all that is happening to SourceForge, you want to continue there? Despite the risks?

We're following the situation to see how it resolves. As I understand it SF have taken control of 'dead' projects and made it hard/impossible for them to be removed. Azureus is still active (in that we upload distribution files there - we don't use any of their other services such as SVN) so in theory should not be perceived as 'dead'.

They've been messing with our installer for a while anyway - not something we like particularly but not something that has caused us to bail - yet.

Hi parg

Thanks for clarifying the licence on the majority of the source files. I downloaded 5.6.1.2 and noticed there's a few that don't have a licence header:

Many thanks

Hi,

I took a look at Vuze 5.7.2.0 and there are still files without a copyright header (see below). Could a Vuze developer confirm they are indeed GPL licensed please? This would allow the Debian developers to package the latest version.

Thank you

Hi,

Those files are distributed under the same GPL license as the rest of the Vuze - thanks for pointing them out, I'll look into updating them

Thank you for the info. Could you also clarify the license for the icons please? Were they created in-house or imported from another source?

In general the icons have been made in house - I know that the other devs and I have spent a lot of time over the years producing terrible icons.

There are few exceptions that I know of

* The magnet gif came from the 'useful icons' section of http://magnet-uri.sourceforge.net/

* The I2P icons (e.g. net_I2P_b.png) come from the I2P project: https://geti2p.net/_static/images/itoopie.png

* The Tor icons (e.g. net_Tor_b.png) come from the Tor project: https://www.torproject.org/docs/trademark-faq.html.en

The icons/images created by us are distributed under the same GPL license as the software.

Thank you very much, this should allow us to revive the azureus package in Debian/Ubuntu.

That would be awesome, thanks!
