How to do a partial restore of only torrents, tags and categories?
#1
Hi,

Vuze stopped connecting to peers. Unfortunately, I did many copnfiguration changes and 2 version updates over several weeks before I noticed the problem after returning from a long biz trip. So, instead of wasting a ton time to troubleshoot, I backed up the entire congiuration and did a frash install of 5.7.1.0 WITHOUT the exsiting configuration. Vuze connects fine now. (The problem still persisted if I re-installed keeping the old configuration, so clearly that was the problem).

The only settings I want to salvage from the old configuration are the library list of torrents, the tags and the categories.
They are way too many to do manually one by one. Is there a way to restore ONLY these config data?

Thanks for the help in advance.

There is a 5710 bug that can cause peer connection issues

Could that have been the cause? If so perhaps try restoring the whole backed up config?

Parg,

Thanks for replying. As always, you ARE the man!
It's not 5.7.1.0. I saw a bunch of posts people complaining of connectiion issues but my clean 5.7.1.0. install is connecting just fine. The prob started way before I updated to 5.7.1.0. It was something I did in the options but so much time has passed since then and I've tried so many different things that that config is thoroughly screwed up.

I still need an idea how to restore the torrents lib and tags.

Thanks again

parg,

Let me put the question a different way. Is there a way to reset the config to almost factory settings: ALL settings EXCEPT the torrents and tags?

Thanks

You could try restoring files (and their .bak equivalents where they exist)

downloads.config
dlarchive.config (if it exists)
tag.config

and the folders (and contents)

active
torrents
dlarchive (if it exists)

might work for you but no guarantees!

No dlarchive. Too bad.

I decided to keep the existing config and install Vuze on another computer and compare screen by screen each setting in the Options. It will be the least time-consuming and surest way. I'll wait for the next drop since there is a bug in 5710 even though I'm not having a prob w/it.

But let me turn this into a feature suggestion. Vuze is very robust and being very actively developed constantly adding and tweaking features. This is a good thing but brings some management issues like this one to the forefront. For some people it will be hard to keep up or even understand all settings and features. Inevitably, this problem will keep come up. There should be a way to reset to default ONLY (but all of them) non-data related config settings. I'll post this as a feature request too.

Thanks again.

dlarchive will only exist if you use the 'archive' feature within Vuze - if you don't then it'll be missing
