Download Speed
#1
My download speed will not set to Unlimited. Every time I attempt to set it, it jumps back to 16 or 24. What is causing this? It has never been a problem before.

Go to Tools->Speed Limit Handler->View Current... to see what speed limits you have in place. Also, if you have installed the 'Speed Scheduler' plugin then check its configuration

I don't have any speed limits in place. Each limit section says "none"

I am less than certain but could it be auto-speed?

under preferences/settings transfer->Auto speed

are any of those settings engaged?

Again I am far less than 100% certain but I think that could cause the problem you are describing.

Quote:I couldn't find preferences. But I did find the option to reset my settings completely, and that seems to have helped.
Thank You

It is called preferences on Mac . . . on windows I think it is called settings.  Which is why I said preferences/settings ;-)

But the bottom line is that you got is sorted out.  I am glad to hear it.

I don't see preferences OR settings. And apparently I was wrong. I got back home and switched back to my home wifi and it reset back to limited w/out letting me set it on Unlimited.

Well on a Mac you press command-, to get the preferences.  I do not have a windows box so I can not tell you the exact menu option.  On the Mac it is the last menu item under the tools menu.

I have just joined these forums and I haven't figured out how to start a new thread but as my problem is slow download speed
I am asking for help in this existing thread. If I should start a new thread instead of using this one please tell me how.
For about 6 days now the download speed in Vuze has fallen from fast to very slow but nothing has changed with my pc and the settings in Vuze are
still the same, i.e. Global Limits download is unlimited, upload 29.0 kb, and LAN limits unlimited for download and upload.
The slow speed applies even to popular movies with thousands of peers which would normally take me less than an hour to download. Now they are taking days.

Well I am not saying you have to start a new thread but if you look at the listing for each individual forum section (http://forum.vuze.com/Forum-Download-Con...n-Problems for example) You will see a blue bar running across the screen near the top of the page which has the name of the sub-forum listed (in this case "Download / Connection Problems")  if you look on the right hand side of that bar and just above it . . . you will see a small blue box labeled "New Thread" . . . click it and you are off to the races.  But again I personally see nothing wrong with you posting here (but since I am not staff here . . .  that means almost nothing LOL).

As for your problem .  . . have you tried the various suggestions in this very thread?

Maybe this is something specific to Windows that some setting is somehow getting overwritten.  I can not imagine how that could happen but I guess it is possible.

There have been a few complaints similar to yours but from what I have read there has been no definitive solution to the problem.  I suspect that there is some setting which is getting enabled by default when you upgrade to the latest version . . . but at least in my case . . . this did not happen.  I can still download near my maximum speed but due to the relatively high speed I have (my theoretical max is 75 Mbit/sec but speed tests show it is more like 83 Mbit/sec) .  . . it is very rare that I hit the maximum ever.  I know I have seen speeds in the 70 + Mbit/sec range when downloading . . . which is about 90% of my max.  The point of all of that was to say I have seen close enough to my maximum speed to say that this is certainly not a problem with all users on all platforms.  Having said that I am using a Mac.  I also more or less exclusively use private torrents which might mean that the setting which is getting overwritten is something which only effects public torrents.

Again I would first try what parg and I suggested to check and report back.   If none of that helps hopefully someone will come along with other suggestions.

In your earlier post you mentioned

"under preferences/settings transfer->Auto speed

are any of those settings engaged?

I don't even know where to find these. I looked in file, view, community, tools but cannot see these things.
Can you direct me to the place to see them please.

thanks.

Just as suddenly as the download speed crashed a week ago it has just as suddenly gone back to normal today.

Maybe it is called options on windows.  As I said i do not have access to a windows computer.  Try tools->Options

then look for preferences/settings transfer->Auto speed

But it hardly matters now since the situation magically repaired itself.  I am glad to hear your problem is resolved.

I, too, have been experiencing very slow downloads for the past few weeks. My download speed used to be around 200kb/s. Now, it's down to around 20-25kb/s. I have been a user of Vuze for about 4-5 years now, and , this is the first time I encountered this slow download.

Please advise what to check and how to improve the speed. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I am using a Macbook with OS X version 10.6.8
