Can't add a new torrent from Remote
#1
Java 1.7.0_71 (32 bit)
Oracle Corporation
SWT v4508, win32
Windows XP v5.1, x86
V5.7.1.0/4 az2

Vuze Remote for Android
Version 2.4.2 (build 74). GPLv2+

After some initial issues with port forwarding, my Vuze Remote for Android connects instantly, displays my queue and keeps me informed of the status of my Vuze client very nicely. However, when I try to add new torrent through the Remote, it says "adding...", but nothing ever shows up in the desktop client.

I have tried both adding a torrent file that I have downloaded with my browser (Chrome for Android) and also by pasting the hash. The result is the same either way - no torrent is added to the queue.

Any suggestions?

Try a known working torrent url, like this one, to see if it's the site that you are getting the torrent from (or whether it's an issue with magnet uri's and not .torrent files):

https://download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/...mg.torrent

Let us know if that torrent gets added properly.

No joy. No change in behavior. Vuze Remote for Android accepted that url without complaint, but no new torrent appears in the WinXP client.

I can add new torrents to the WinXP Vuze queue from a browser on the WinXP system with no problems and I do so frequently, but I would sure like to be able to those new torrents from the Remote app. My WinXP system is nearly dedicated to just running the Vuze client and it's no longer in a conveniently accessible location, hence the need for the remote.

What's next?

Can you check your version of the Vuze Web Remote plugin? On your WinXP, go to Tools->Options->Plugins->Vuze Web Remote, it should be a the very top on the config page. It should be 0.5.11

Can you try the web version of the remote? On your Android device, go to http://remote.vuze.com enter your access code, and add the same gimp torrent url. If it works, then there's something wrong with the android app, otherwise, there's something wrong.. somewhere else.. O.o

My vuze web remote is 0.5.9

Updates for plugins are enabled and Vuze seems to think everything is up to date.

Pasting your url into the "Add Torrent" dialog at remote.vuze.com results in...

Error adding torrent:

error: org.gudy.azureus2.plugins.utils.resourcedownloader.ResourceDownloaderException:https://download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/...mg.torrent: Error on connect for 'https://download.gimp.org:443/pub/gimp/v2.8/...mg.torrent': 404 Not Found: error=<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">

I tried a variation of your suggestion by giving the Vuze Web remote website the torrent file that I am trying to add. Bingo! It accepted it and it showed up in the queue of my Vuze client.

Then, after deleting the torrent I just added, I tried the same thing with the Android app - I tapped the + icon and browsed to the saved torrent file. Again, I got the brief "Adding..." message and back to the display of my queue. Looking at the Vuze client this time there is no new torrent in the queue.

I think I have demonstrated that I can add a new torrent through the web remote interface, but not through the Android app. Right?

Definitely sounds like it's something wrong with the android app. I'm not sure what to suggest next.

What version of Android are you using?

fwiw, it looks like the test torrent url was wrong/hidden (forum software put dots in the text of the url). Correct url is
Code:
https://download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/osx/gimp-2.8.16-x86_64-1.dmg.torrent

I'm assuming though, you'd have the same results with this URL as you would with your file browsing test that worked on the web site, but not the android app.

My Android phone is the Sony C6806 Z Ultra Google Play Edition, running 5.1.

One more data point.

I installed the Android Vuze Remote app on my wife's LG tablet - also a Google Play Edition, also running 5.1. The app paired with the client without a hitch.

I then ran the same test with the same results. "Adding content from...", but nothing shows up in the Vuze client queue.

So... Does anyone actually use the Vuze Remote app for Android to add new torrents to their desktop Vuze client?
