Burned avi file to a DVD RW and won't play in DVD player but ok on computer

I just want to do a simple burn of a file! The original file is a movie in an avi format, 51 mins long. I have Vuze Plus the instructions and it seemed simple enough. It didn't take that long. But it will only play on the computer (Mac) and no the DVD player. My DVD player is only a few yrs old. 

What else can I try? Thanks.
 I forgot to say that the file on the computer, when opened, says CD ROM??
