Add/Edit Search Templates

ok - it said to copy and paste this first:

Java 1.6.0_65
 Apple Inc.
SWT v4508, cocoa
Mac OS X v10.10.2, x86_64
V5.5.0.0/4 az3

Now, my question is about adding a search template.
I don't understand the instructions, they are way too technical for me. Is there a step by step discription on how to do this?  I just want to add a site.
