5.7.0.0 upgrade has dramatically reduced my torrenting performance
#1
Before this upgrade to 5.7.0.0 I would easily get download speeds anywhere from
1 to 8 MB/s on magnet links. This "upgrade" to 5.7.0.0 has made some changes
to my settings and screwed up my configuration to the point where not only
have I had my upload and download speeds dramatically reduced, but I also no
longer have load balanccing working between my dual Gigabit ethernet
controllers. I have tried resetting my speed limits to 'unlimited' and tried
rerunning speed tests and all the normal fixes, but nothing is working.

My download speed is now hovering around the 100  to 400 kB/s which is totally
unacceptable for a 60 MB connection, I do not know what happened, but this
upgrade has completely hosed my torrenting performance, which was previously
awesome and I am pretty pissed off. I have been a loyal Vuze user for years, and
I know how to configure it and make it work very well, but this upgrade has
completely hosed a previously perfectly tuned setup.

Here is my system information from "About Vuze"

Java 1.7.0_85 (64 bit)
 Oracle Corporation

SWT v4608, gtk/3.14.5

Linux v3.16.0-4-amd64, amd64
V5.7.0.0/4 az3

Nothing has really changed in the networking area that could account for your problems - are you getting the usual number of peer connections from trackers?

I am getting the usual number of peers and connections, but the speeds are drastically reduced compared to what I am used to getting. I was able to get the load balancing issue straightened out by re-enabling port triggering in my router, but I am still getting drastically reduced performancxe downloading  and uploading.

Something I noticed after I first upgraded to the new version was that, for some reason, the global download speed was set to 2  kB/s in TOOLS -> SPEED LIMITS instead of my normal setting of "Unlimited" (btw, the interface change for setting the speed limit in the new version is a disaster, people are changing shit that simply does not need fixing)

Right now I am getting a little better download speeds (actually over 1.25 MB/s) but still much slower than normal, and for some reason I am not getting any "Seeding Rank" calcculations at all anymore, which kind of sucks because I will often seed files with higher seeding ranks. Now the column is completely empty so I can't easily see what might need seeding and sort by seeding rank. (I always view using the  whole "Library" view)

I guess I am just peeved because this is the first time a Vuze "upgrade" has had such a negative impact on my torrenting performance. I have never been unhappy with a Vuze upgrade and/or not been able to easily make the required adjustments to ger my perfoamce back to normal after an upgrade.

It's not like I am going to use another bittorent program, I have looked at all the others,  and they all suck and can't be configured to the degree Vuze can, it's why I have stuck with Vuze for the last 5 years or so, but I have to say that this upgrade has been less than stellar.

On Linux the UI library has been switched from the old GTK2 to the new GTK3 (well, it has been around a while but there were significant bugs in it that prevented us from attempting a switch up until now) - perhaps the missing seeding rank is related to this, I'll take a look.

What version did you upgrade from? The speed limit changing UI hasn't changed recently (unless this is another consequence of GTK3) - any chance you could post a screenshot?

I cannot remember the version I upgraded from (I want to say 5.5.0.8 but can't be 100% sure) , all I know is that I always keep current and use the latest version that gets distributed through the Vuze program. I sometimes set the speed limits through the TOOLS -> SPEED LIMITS interface, (the interface used in the screenshot) but I more often use the advanced settings interface in TOOLS --> OPTIONS -> TRANSFER.

As you can see, the download speed is horrible, and the interface to change the speed limit...like WTF is this?? When has Vuze went to a text-based scriting style??. Prior to this upgrade I  would be getting a combined total download speed anywhere in the 5 to 8 MB/s range, and now I barely manage to get a total download speed over 1 MB/s range and it really fluctuates as you can see in the graph. Before this upgrade the speed would be a lot more steady and consistent in the graph.

I am not sure what is  going on, but something has changed and has really had a negative impact on my downloading and seeding.

EDIT - This is the first time I actually broke 2 MB/s on my downloading, and as you can see after all the scraping of the trackers I still  do not have any 'Seeding Rank' numbers like I have always had before. And the total speed will be very erratic going from around 400 kB/s to 2 MB/s.

Not sure what you mean about the interface changing to set the speed limit. The Tools->Speed Limits functionality has ALWAYS been a scripted set of commands to schedule limits (and other related features) - nothing has changed there. It was introduced quite a few releases ago.

If you don't want to schedule limits (by time of day for example) then it is unlikely you would ever need to go into that script and enable it / change anything.

Typically global speed limits are managed by right-clicking on the up/down speeds in the status bar (bottom right) and selecting from there. Also, typically, all you would configure is a global upload limit of around 80% of your theoretical max upload speed.

Any idea on what I can  do about the 'Seeding Rank' values not showing up? I would really like to get this fixed.

I don't suppose your Queue rules are set to None? :)

You could always try changing the rule type, saving, and switching it back to the option you have before (and saving).. that should kick it in the butt.

Yes, I am experiencing the same thing!

My download performance has also been DRAMATICALLY reduced. My download performance was great before I installed Version 5.7.0.0. (I'm using a Windows PC).

I would like to downgrade to the previous version. Can I simply uninstall the new version and install the older version and continue where I left off? Where can I get an older Version of Vuze?

Hi,
I also noticed an inexplicable use of upload bandwidth starting from version 5.6 or somewhat earlier.

See the below screenshot: only one torrent, downloading at 1 MB/s, uploading at 4.8 KB/s + 1.3 KB/s of overhead. However, the performance monitor reports a steady upload of 20-30 KB/s with spikes of 70-80 KB/s that completely eat up my bandwidth and disrupt the download.

That's entirely generated by Vuze. If I stop the torrent, the upload drops to zero. I disabled I2P and TOR plugins. What else could be taking that upload bandwidth? I've been using Vuze for years and I am absolutely sure that didn't occur with older Azureus and early versions of Vuze.

Either I haven't understood the exact meaning of "overhead" or there is something wrong here.

Thank you and regards,

Yes same thing happened to me ... gone from 2-3MB/s to 20-30KB/s  :-(
