How do download in public WiFi area?

Hi,
I am trying to download torrents with Vuze in a public WiFi area, but are getting blocked.
Any ideas of a simple/cheap way to circumvent this problem?
I don't subscribe to a VPN or hide IP service - just a normal user using a Mac...
Many thx in advance for any suggestions / ideas.
