i've been using azureus for years with no problems, but just recently it uploaded the vuze interface and i can no longer make a connection. my nat/firewall test checks out ok, but when i try to DL a torrent i get a 'error: failed to create directory' message.

when i run the speed test i get: Test failed: Test aborted: Could not start test: The system cannot find the path specified

been checking the forums but can't find any similar problems. any advice? i'm running vista if that makes any difference.

I am also experiencing the same trouble with mine, it just started last night after Azureus updated. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the most current version numerous times, and previous versions like 3.0.4.2 . Evertime I get the

error:failed to create directory C:\Documents and Settings\ReleaseEngineer.MACROVISION\Application Data\Azureus\azureus.config.saving (The system cannot find the path specified)

and a similar error when loading up a torrent. Azureus will not update anymore because of the same errors. Under tools/options/files--current configurations directory it shows C:\Documents and Settings\ReleaseEngineer.MACROVISION\Application Data\Azureus in blue and when I click on it, windows returns the error of not being found and azureus will not let me change it. I am not new to azureus, but this has me stumped.

After becoming increasingly frustrated with Azureus reporting errors to me, I descided to do google searches on the "ReleaseEngineer.MACROVISION" part of the string. What I came up with was this post in another forum dealing with Winbox.

mrz wrote:
open registry editor:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folder
and make sure that AppData is set to "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming"

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folder
AppData should be "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming"

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Volatile Environment
AppData ishould be "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming"

My first one was C:\Documents and Settings\ReleaseEngineer.MACROVISION\Application Data and several others were C:\Documents and Settings\ReleaseEngineer.MACROVISION... Went to Macrovision's web site. They deal in digital rights management... I think it was software I had to download in order to buy some MP3s. Walmart is the only MP-3 download store I've used on this computer. I uninstalled the software but it didn't change the registry entries back.

I deleted all of the entries that had C:\Documents and Settings\ReleaseEngineer.MACROVISION in them (looks like they default correctly when automatically re-added) and Winbox is good again.

THANK YOU!

Dave

I deleted all the strings that showed up with "ReleaseEngineer.MACROVISION" as Dave commented doing above. I still had version 3.0.4.2 installed from my exhausted efforts trying to get azureus to work. Once I deleted all of the strings containing "ReleaseEngineer.MACROVISION", Azureus started up without any errors and started downloading again. Be very cautious when messing with the registry, do research if you are unsure how to edit it and what to do. I am not new to editing registry in windows as I have been fiddling and building computers for the last 17 years, I am though still fairly new to the Vista version of windows :-(. I have not rebooted vista yet so I don't know for sure if it is all fixed. I'll let you know when I get back up after reboot.

I hope this helps you.

Awesome. This issue has popped up off and on here. Thank you for reporting back what you used.

I'll be adding this stuff into the 'Read Before Posting' item.

Thank you!

**Macrovision Problem.**

I've had a similar problem with East-Tec Eraser - A privacy program.

I tried the 'edit the registry' method and caused major problems.

I then completely reinstalled Vista but the problem still existed.

A simple way out, that worked for me, was as follows.

1) Uninstall the program using the EXISTING user account which was used to
install the program..
2) Create a NEW user account with administrator rights.
3) Use the NEW account to install the problematic program.
4) Then, use the New account to run the program.
5) Your problem should have gone away but I can't guarantee that.
6) If everthing is OK, delete the old user account.
7) You will then need to configure the NEW account to your own requirements.

Please note that I take no reponsibility for any problems which may be caused
by using my suggestions.

NB
Don't forget to BACK UP your data.

Thanks very much for this.
In the end I just examined every entry in my Registry which had c:\Documents and Settings\ - though they were the same ones you'd highlighted.
It has sorted out loads of intermittent errors in different places.
