Dualboot Windows XP Ubuntu Continue downloads

Is it possible to start to download in XP, switch to Ubuntu and continue downloading from the same torrent in Vuze?

If yes: What settings should I set? Should I change the settings before starting to download it or can I change them after I already started downloading it

Thx in advance.

You can't really do this.

You can use a partition shared by both OS or an external drive and save the torrent data there. You will need to re-check the data before you start the same torrent again each time you switch the OS.

A good a suggestion as I've heard, yet still not very elegant. The fact is the client wasn't really designed for this in mind.

Also, seeing as how both XP and Linux arrange volumes completely differently, this won't help very much.

Depends on the setup. Both can read/write FAT32 just fine.

Although of course this limits you to less than 4GB files. In other words DVD iso files may not be possible.

Yes it does. So another possiblity is to save the data on a samba share.

Anyway, all this is just playing aroung. The usual answer should be: "You cannot do that".

People who know what they are doing probably do not need to ask and find a solution themselves.

Ok thx, I get it.
Tought it would be as easy as changing the directories in Tools > Options > Files >... so Vuze on both OS looks in the same directories on a (shared) partition. Apparently it's not that easy, it didn't work when I tried and I don't fully understand all the replies.
Will choose one OS for Vuze.
Thanks anyway

Ps: I was expecting too much I guess. If this is ever implemented/possible in a later version let me know.

How do you recheck the data of a torrent before starting it ?
Can you use the windows ntfs partition as the location for the data ? linux can write to that kind of partitions

Right click the stopped torrent and choose 'Force re-check' from the menu.

If both operating systems can read/write the partition, yes.

I've done something vaguely similar before. One boring bank holiday afternoon, I migrated an active install of Vista to Xubuntu (as you do). It was a managed migration of Vista > Dual boot Vista/Xubuntu > Xubuntu, so the Vuze migration could be verified. Vista seemed overkill for a box whose role was essentially a home file and backup server.

Anywho, I digress.

Yes it's doable. No it's not something you'll want to do every day. The steps have all been mentioned. You can't share configs - the paths are wrong. You can't have a torrent started in XP automatically continue in Ubuntu. It'll need to be added into the "Ubuntu Vuze" client in the stopped state, then Force Rechecked, then Queued for download from it's partial completed state. You'd also be best served stopping all torrents before quitting. You don't want to overwrite or request data you've already got from the other o/s.

Yes, It is possible to do this. From Windows, copy the file that you have downloaded (whether if it is 10% or 50%), just copy all the downloaded files to Ubuntu. In Ubuntu, you can start the torrent application (Vuze or the default BitTorrent client). Add the torrent file (not the Downloaded Files) and a box will show up telling you where to save the torrent files. Just add the location of the downloaded files you copied earlier from Windows. Then let the Torrent Client proccess all the files and later your download will Continue... :)

Yes, you can save the torrent in the external drive other then in which windows is installed and start downloading in windows XP.
When you login in Ubuntu than again run the same torrent but save the file location to the same where it save in windows XP.
Actually before start downloading vuze search for file availability packets and then start. Now after checking the packets it start downloading form where it is stop in windows Xp. You can ask the technician for Microsoft windows vista support if you get any trouble.

I hope this will help you.
